Come for the gold, stay for the rush

The year was 1851. When gold was discovered in Jackson Creek, the boom began and the town of Jacksonville was founded. Before long, the burgeoning young town became the agricultural and economic hub of southern Oregon. But when the Oregon and California Railroad decided to bypass the town in 1884 and go through Medford instead, Jacksonville lost its place as the county seat and regional economic engine. That’s why the Jacksonville of today remains much like it was back then. Victorian-era architecture.  Charming storefronts from a bygone era. Even the pace of daily life is a bit slower here — and more friendly. It’s a picture-perfect window into what life was like in a late 1800s gold rush town. And it’s just minutes away from The Vineyards at Stage Pass.

A food scene worthy of seconds (and thirds!)

If you’re hungry for more than just breathtaking scenery and an abundance of activities, Jacksonville is just what you ordered. Whether it’s early morning over locally roasted coffee, high noon at a local bistro or an evening repast of your favorite farm-to-table Northwest cuisine with a local twist, Jacksonville has an appetite for eating.

You won’t believe what’s in store for you

Whether you’re in the market for trinkets, treasures or one-of-a-kind pleasures, Jacksonville has just what you’re looking for. Exploring the independently owned stores and boutiques along Main Street is the perfect cardio — for you and your wallet. You’ll find galleries, spas, salons (and saloons!), along with local tasting rooms where you can enjoy wines from the region. As you’ll quickly discover, this little gem of a town is highly walkable and has at least one of everything — except chain stores.

A treasure-trove of world-class activities

For a small town tucked into the hills, Jacksonville has an array of activities that makes the bigger cities jealous. Start with miles of hiking trails right out your backdoor. Skiing at Mt. Ashland is less than an hour away, as is a sea of water activities on the scenic Rogue River and area reservoirs. And Crater Lake National Park makes for a breathtaking day trip. For those who like their local arts with a side of national acclaim, take your pick — the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in nearby Ashland and the Britt Music & Arts Festival in Jacksonville are both world-class yearly events.

May we suggest a wine with that?

The Rogue Valley is home to dozens of smaller, family-run wineries. The state’s largest warm-climate growing region has come into its own, producing top-notch wines that can compete with the best from anywhere. Think of it as a welcoming and inviting community where the same hands that make your wine will shake yours at the door.
